The Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), Kogi State Chapter, has passed a vote of confidence in the Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Umar Aliu Yusuf, in recognition of his leadership and commitment to the welfare of legislative staff.

The union, through its executive members, also pledged total loyalty to the Speaker’s leadership, assuring him of their continued support in ensuring the smooth functioning of the Assembly.

In a statement signed by PASAN Chairman, Comrade Omotala Ayodele, the staff expressed satisfaction with the Speaker’s administration, noting that his leadership has strengthened staff morale and fostered a more inclusive working environment within the legislature.

According to the union, while previous Speakers may have carried staff along to some extent, none, based on their findings, has matched the inclusive and open-door leadership demonstrated by Rt. Hon. Yusuf. PASAN particularly highlighted his human-centered approach and consistent engagement with staff members.

The union applauded the Speaker for ensuring that both Christian and Muslim staff receive palliatives, including rice and vegetable oil, during major religious festivals. These gestures, PASAN noted, have significantly cushioned the financial burden associated with festive periods and boosted staff morale across board.

PASAN also appreciated the Speaker’s continued support for the union, citing his readiness to listen to staff concerns and provide economic and financial assistance to members facing challenges.

A major milestone acknowledged in the letter was the implementation of staff promotions during the tenure of the 8th Assembly, under the administration of Governor Usman Ododo.

The union observed that legislative staff had last enjoyed promotion implementation about seven years ago, a situation that had negatively affected morale.

The recent implementation, it said, has restored enthusiasm and renewed commitment among staff members.

The union reaffirmed its readiness to continue supporting the leadership of the Assembly in advancing legislative excellence and staff welfare in Kogi State.
