Ogori-Magongo bids farewell to Late Dr. N S. Keyi

It was a solemn moment filled with wonderful testimonies of the life of Dr. Nezer Segun Keyi, a medical practitioner and owner of Lafiak Hospital, Abaji.

From the wake-keep to the funeral service at the Cathedral Church of St. Peters, Ogori, glowing tributes were paid to the deceased physician, who was aged 72 years.

Residents of Ogori-Magongo Local Government Area of Kogi State on Friday, July 3, 2026, gathered at the Aiyeromi residence of the late Dr. Keyi, popularly known as “Baban Likita,” for a wake service in his honour.

The service was conducted by the Anglican Diocese of Ogori-Magongo, led by Venerable Paul Lamidi Usman, with choirs from across the diocese rendering hymns of comfort.

In a sermon, the clergy urged the congregation to live purposeful lives and leave legacies of love, service, and integrity, noting that Dr. Keyi exemplified those virtues.

Tributes poured in from community leaders, colleagues, and beneficiaries of his philanthropy.

Primate T.O. Olobayo of the Evangelical Church of Yahweh described him as “a rare personality whom God raised to raise others,” who served people without discrimination.

Dr. Ibrahim Ismaila Mosimabale, Provost of Federal College of Education, Okene, described him as humble, generous and compassionate.

Former Nigeria Union Journalists (NUJ), Kogi Chairman, Mr. Bola Boro, a classmate at St. Peter’s Primary School, Ogori, described him as a genius, patriot and outstanding community leader.

Dr. Anthony Animashaun, Daudu of Bekuma, said Dr. Keyi was a dependable leader and former President of Ogori Students’ Association, who will be remembered as a good listener and bridge-builder.

Engr. Gbemi Omole, former Ogori Descebdants’ Union (ODU), National President, and Barr. Adejunwon Adedeji, a beneficiary of his scholarship, also eulogised his selfless service and commitment to education.

Mr. Ilesanmi Orifunmishe of NHRC Lokoja and Barr. Samson Akpata recalled his humility and detribalised nature, while Mr. Olajide Akpata praised his role in church building and saving lives in Abaji.

Mrs. Rebecca Abayi noted that Dr. Keyi prioritieed patients’ welfare over payment, often treating and even waiving bills for the poor.

“His generosity and love for humanity made him a beloved figure,” she said.

Delivering the vote of thanks on behalf of the Keyi, Dangana and Elegbe families, Mrs. Petra Akinti-Oyengbule, Vice President of ODU, appreciated attendees and conveyed the goodwill of ODU President, Dr. Gabriel Aiso.

The service ended with prayers for the family.

Mourners agreed that Dr. Keyi’s legacy of humility, compassion and service will continue to inspire.

The funeral service on Saturday, focused on the need for people to live lives that seek the happiness of others at all times

Dr. Keyi, the preacher, remarked, lived an impactful life, noting that he used his profession to reach many in love and gave without expecting anything in return.
