The Bauchi State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs. Rifkatu Yakubu, has advised female corps members to return home to their parents after completing their service year, rather than moving in with their boyfriends.

Yakubu gave the advice in Bauchi on Thursday during the passing-out ceremony of the 2024 Batch ‘A’ Stream II corp members while distributing their certificates of National Service.

“Please, ladies, your boyfriends are not your parents. Don’t say that after collecting your certificates, you are going to your boyfriends’ houses,” she cautioned. “Go back home to your parents and celebrate with them as you have just successfully completed the National Service.”

She also encouraged them to utilize the skills learned during the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, or consider acquiring new ones to become financially independent.

“Instead of going home to remain idle, get something to do to support your parents. Even with this last allowance, start learning a trade,” she urged.

Yakubu warned against engaging in cybercrime, kidnapping, or ritual activities in pursuit of quick money. “These are not values NYSC has instilled in you. You have served to become responsible members of society,” she emphasised.

She further advised the corps members to carefully check their certificates for errors before laminating them.

A total of 1,652 corps members, including 1,118 males and 534 females, successfully completed their service in Bauchi State.
