The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command, in partnership with the National Orientation Agency (NOA), has intensified its Safe School Initiative to enhance security awareness in schools across the state.
As part of the initiative, a sensitisation campaign was conducted across selected secondary schools in Ilorin South Local Government Area on Monday, March 10, 2025.
The campaign, led by ACC Adebayo Kehinde of the NSCDC and DSC Mike Orilade, the Kwara State Coordinator of the Safe School Response Coordination Centre (SSRCC), aimed to educate students and teachers on security measures, cultism, drug abuse, and the need to report cases of harassment.
During the sessions, students were urged to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities to their teachers or school authorities. “Security is a collective responsibility. We want you to be aware of your surroundings and speak up if you see something unusual,” Orilade told the students.
The NOA team, led by Mrs. Isimikaye Grace, also emphasised the dangers of cultism and drug abuse, encouraging students to embrace positive values that promote a safe learning environment.
Among the schools visited were United Secondary School, Sheikh Abdulsalam Secondary School, St. Williams Secondary School, and Government Secondary School, Oke Aluko. The principals of these schools welcomed the initiative, describing it as a crucial intervention in tackling emerging security threats within school premises.
Commandant Umar Mohammed, reaffirmed the NSCDC’s commitment to securing educational institutions in line with the directive of the Commandant General, Dr. Ahmed Audi. He assured that the Command would sustain its efforts to safeguard students and foster a conducive learning atmosphere.
