The Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has deployed 2,500 officers and personnel to ensure the safety of lives and property during the festive season.

The deployment was announced in a statement issued by the command’s Public Relations Officer, ASC 1 Ayoola Shola, and made available to journalists in Ilorin.

According to the statement, officers from specialised units, including the Armed Squad, Operation Harmony, Counter-Terrorism Unit, Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosive Unit (CBRNE), and Anti-Vandal Unit, have been strategically stationed across all 16 local government areas in the state.

Additionally, plainclothes operatives from the Intelligence and Investigation department will carry out 24-hour surveillance, as well as overt and covert patrols of recreational centers, markets, religious locations, and government infrastructure.

Speaking on the deployment, the Commandant of the Kwara State NSCDC, Dr. Umar Muhammed, assured residents of a peaceful and secure celebration, emphasising that the Corps would collaborate with other security agencies and local vigilantes to prevent any form of criminal activity.

“Let me assure the good people of Kwara State of our commitment to ensuring a trouble-free Yuletide and New Year celebration. We are fully prepared to deal decisively with any criminal element who may attempt to disrupt public peace,” Dr. Muhammed stated.

He issued a stern warning to vandals, highlighting that offenders risk severe penalties, including a 21-year prison sentence without the option of a fine, in accordance with existing laws.

The Commandant urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies, while extending his Christmas and New Year greetings to the people of the state.
