A 52-year-old man, identified as Alaba Ayeni, has been found dead inside a domestic well near Lamp Bearers Islamic School, off Asa-Dam Road, Ilorin, Kwara State.
Ayeni was reportedly discovered inside the well after some children in the community noticed the situation and alerted elders in the area.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, with the location said to be close to the deceased’s residence.
Following the report, the Kwara State Fire Service, was called to the scene and arrived at about 8:42am to commence a recovery operation.

Firefighters subsequently recovered the body from the well and handed it over to DPO Bolaji of Budo-Nuhu Police Station, Nigeria Police Force, for further necessary action.
The Public Relations Officer of the Kwara State Fire Service, PFO Hassan Adekunle, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.
Reacting to the incident, the Chief Fire Officer, CFS Alabi Muhammed, expressed concern over the death and urged residents to properly cover and secure domestic wells and other open water sources in residential areas.
He also advised parents, guardians and community leaders to ensure that children are not allowed to move around unattended near wells, drainage channels and other potentially dangerous locations.
The Chief Fire Officer sympathised with the deceased’s family and the affected community, assuring residents that the Fire Service would continue to respond promptly to emergencies and work towards protecting lives and property across the state.
