Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, has received approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC), to commence 24 new full-time academic programmes from the 2026/2027 academic session, in a move aimed at broadening the institution’s academic capacity.
The approval was disclosed in a statement issued by the Director of University Relations, Professor Saeedat Aliyu, and made available to journalists in Ilorin
According to the statement, the approval was conveyed in a letter dated June 19, 2026, addressed to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, and signed by the NUC Director of Academic Planning, Abubakar Girei.
The newly approved programmes comprise 14 undergraduate and 10 postgraduate courses across engineering, health sciences, education, management, arts and social sciences.

The undergraduate programmes include Architecture, Quantity Surveying, Surveying and Geoinformatics, Nursing Science, Educational Technology, Guidance and Counselling, Health Education, Entrepreneurship Education, Insurance and Risk Management, Technology Education, Community Health Science, Computer Engineering, Industrial and Production Engineering, as well as Biomedical Engineering.
The postgraduate approval cover Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Fine and Applied Arts, Performing Arts, Linguistics, Food Science and Technology, Hospitality and Tourism Management, Public Administration and Mass Communication, alongside a Postgraduate Diploma and Master of Technology programme.
Reacting to the development, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, described the approval as a major milestone for the university and commended members of staff for their commitment during the NUC resource verification exercise.
“We are excited by this approval and I congratulate our dedicated staff whose hard work ensured the successful outcome of the resource verification exercise conducted by the NUC,” he said.
Professor Jimoh reaffirmed the university’s commitment to maintaining high standards in teaching, research and community service.
He added, “KWASU will continue to sustain the excellence in teaching, research and community development for which the institution is known, while producing quality human capital required to drive national and global development.”
