From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin
Kwara United delivered an electrifying performance in Ilorin, securing a crucial 2-0 victory over Kano Pillars on matchday 28 of the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL).
The match, held at the recently renamed Rashidi Yekini Stadium, saw an overwhelming turnout of fans, a sight that deeply impressed Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
Goals from Wasiu Alalade, who converted a penalty, and Wasiu Jimoh’s stunning volley ensured Kwara United maintained their strong home record. The result further fuels their ambition of securing a continental ticket.
Governor AbdulRazaq, who witnessed the game alongside other dignitaries, praised the energy from the stands, noting that such support is vital for the team’s morale.
“The fans’ support is overwhelming,” he said. “We are optimistic that Kwara United will keep pushing to secure a continental spot. If you recall, we were on the continental stage a few years back, and we can do it again.”
Despite the presence of Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa, Kano Pillars struggled to find a way past Kwara United’s resolute defense.
Speaking after the match, Musa acknowledged the improvements in Ilorin’s sporting infrastructure, commending Governor AbdulRazaq for his dedication to sports development.
With this victory, Kwara United inches closer to their dream of representing Nigeria on the continental stage once again, while their fans continue to prove they are among the most passionate in the country.
