The Senator representing Kwara South Senatorial District and Deputy Senate Leader, Lola Ashiru, has intensified efforts to bridge the digital gap in his constituency with the training of 60 youths in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and the distribution of 200 computer systems to beneficiaries across political divides.

The initiative, held in Offa recently was described as part of the senator’s sustained empowerment programmes targeting residents of the seven local government areas in the district.
Speaking on behalf of the senator, his Senior Legislative Aide, Yunus Alabi, said the training marks the fifth in a series of ICT interventions since Ashiru assumed office, underscoring his commitment to youth development and economic growth.

According to Alabi, the programme was deliberately structured to be inclusive, drawing participants from different political parties and even beyond the senatorial district through an online application process.
He noted that the training, which coincided with the Ramadan season, also catered for participants’ welfare, including accommodation as well as Sahur and Iftar meals for those who travelled from outside Offa and Oyun local government areas.

“The programme was designed to expose participants to practical digital skills such as web design and other ICT tools that can enhance their productivity,” Alabi said.
He added that most of the beneficiaries were young people still in school or engaged in various trades, including artisans and small business owners.
“The world is increasingly driven by technology. This programme is aimed at exposing our youths to opportunities in ICT and how they can use it to promote their businesses and services,” he explained.
Alabi further revealed that, aside from the laptops distributed, participants were also given transport allowances, noting that the gesture reflects the senator’s concern for their overall welfare.
He expressed confidence that the initiative would contribute significantly to socio-economic development in Kwara South by improving digital literacy, strengthening business management capacity and encouraging accountability among small-scale entrepreneurs.
He also assured that similar empowerment programmes would be rolled out in the coming months to accommodate more constituents.
Some of the beneficiaries, including Ajewole Josephine and Balogun Ayodeji, commended the senator for the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful.
According to them, the training and equipment provided would enhance their digital skills and improve their businesses, while also opening up new opportunities in the technology space.
