Kwara Police nab suspected bandit in Kaiama, warns residents to stay alert

The Kwara State Police Command, has arrested a 20-year-old man suspected of attempting to join a terrorist-linked group in the Kaiama area of the state.

The arrest highlights the ongoing security efforts in the state to curb criminal activities and protect communities.

The suspect, identified as Mallami Abubakar from Isanlu Dankuturu in Kogi State, was apprehended on April 1, 2026, during a joint patrol by the police, National Forest Guards, and Kaiama Vigilante Group at Nanu.

Investigation revealed that he had been contacted on March 30 by an acquaintance from Babana Village in Niger State, inviting him to join a group allegedly affiliated with ISWAP/Lakurawa in Farinsuni.

Commissioner of Police in Kwara State, CP Ojo Adekimi, affirmed the command’s resolve to safeguard residents, saying, “We remain committed to protecting lives and properties across Kwara State. The arrest of this suspect sends a strong message to criminals that our security apparatus will not relent.”

The suspect is currently in police custody as a thorough investigation continues to uncover other individuals linked to the case.

CP Adekimi, also urged residents to report any suspicious activities immediately, emphasising that community vigilance is key to maintaining security.

SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the state Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the arrest in a statement released on April 4, 2026, reiterating that the police remain dedicated to fighting crime in partnership with local communities.
