From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

The Kwara State Police Command, has intensified its crackdown on violent crime with the arrest of two suspected armed robbers and cult members allegedly terrorising parts of Ilorin, particularly the Amoyo axis.

The suspects, identified as Abdulazeez Isiaq, popularly known as “Pumpin,” and Rilwan Mohammed, were apprehended following a reported robbery incident on April 19, 2026, at Kabba Kajola Junction.

According to the police, the arrest was made possible through swift intelligence-led operations by officers attached to the Amoyo Division, while a third suspect remains at large.

Police investigations revealed that the suspects reportedly attacked their victims and forced them into an uncompleted building believed to serve as their hideout. There, the victims were threatened with death and dispossessed of their belongings, including high-end mobile phones and other valuables.

Spokesperson of the command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed that “a locally made pistol and one of the stolen phones were recovered from the suspects,” adding that they have confessed to carrying out the crime.

Further findings at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), linked the suspects to the notorious Eiye Confraternity, a cult group associated with armed robbery and violent clashes in Ilorin and surrounding communities.

Police described Abdulazeez Isiaq as a known criminal figure whose arrest has dealt a significant blow to criminal networks in the area.

“The Command remains resolute in its efforts to rid the state of violent crime and ensure the safety of residents,” the police spokesperson stated, assuring that the suspects would be prosecuted upon the conclusion of investigations.

Authorities also confirmed that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect, urging members of the public to continue providing credible information to support ongoing security operations.
