The Kwara State House of Assembly has paid tribute to the late Alhaji Musa Maiyaki, a respected political and business figure, while making progress on an amendment to the Kwara State Education Trust Fund Law aimed at improving transparency and accountability.
At Tuesday’s plenary, Speaker Rt. Hon. Yakubu Salihu, led lawmakers in mourning Maiyaki, who was described as a selfless leader dedicated to public service.
Hon. Arinola Lawal (Ilorin East), formally informed the House of his passing, recalling his role as Chairman of the old Ilorin Local Government and Deputy Chairman of the defunct National Republican Convention (NRC).
“Alhaji Maiyaki was a pillar of leadership, a businessman whose legacy extends beyond politics. His contributions to the Otoge movement and Kwara’s political development will not be forgotten,” Hon. Arinola stated, praying for Allah’s mercy on his soul.

On legislative matters, the Assembly considered the Kwara State Education Trust Fund (Amendment) Bill, 2025, which seeks to enhance financial oversight in managing education funds.
House Leader, Hon. Magaji Abdulkadir, (Ilorin Central), explained that the bill proposes stricter accountability measures, including the requirement for the Trust Fund to submit its annual budget for the Governor’s approval.
“This amendment will strengthen financial transparency, streamline board operations, and ensure better decision-making processes,” Hon. Magaji said.
Other lawmakers, including Hon. Rukayat Shittu (Owode/Onire) and Hon. Saba Gideon (Edu), backed the bill, which scaled its second reading and was referred to the House Committee on Education and Human Capital Development for further review.
The session ended with a motion for adjournment moved by Hon. Magaji Oba Abdulkadir and seconded by Hon. Saidu Baba Ahmed (Banni/Adena).
