From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

A fire outbreak at No. 90 Koro Compound, Oke-Apomu, Ilorin, on Wednesday afternoon, destroyed seven rooms in a storey building.

Firefighters from the Kwara State Fire Service swiftly intervened to prevent the inferno from spreading to other parts of the building.

According to a statement issued by the fire service, officials received a distress call at exactly 1:53 p.m. and arrived promptly to battle the flames. Though the fire had already engulfed multiple rooms, firefighters managed to salvage 13 out of the 20 rooms in the building.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the incident was caused by an unattended gas cooker, which ignited the blaze.”

Reacting to the incident, the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John, emphasised the importance of fire safety measures.

He cautioned residents against negligence when handling gas cookers and other flammable materials.

“We urge residents to be extra cautious, especially with gas cookers. A moment of carelessness can lead to irreparable loss,” he warned.

The Kwara State Fire Service reassured the public of its commitment to protecting lives and property through rapid emergency response and continuous fire prevention awareness campaigns.
