Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has inaugurated a consequential adjustment committee to review and implement the new national minimum wage in the state.
The ceremony, held on Friday at the Council Chambers of the Government House, was attended by top government officials, labour leaders, and representatives from the private sector.
Governor AbdulRazaq, emphasized the importance of the committee’s role in evaluating all relevant factors to ensure the new wage structure balances the interests of workers with those of other societal segments.
He noted that while the President’s recent approval of N70,000 as the national minimum wage is a positive development, its implementation requires careful consideration of how it impacts various levels of government employees.
“This committee is tasked with assessing all indices and providing practical adjustments for every cadre of workers.
We must ensure that salary increases are balanced with the need for continued development and overall state interests,” AbdulRazaq stated.
The committee, chaired by the State Head of Service, Mrs. Modupe Susan Oluwole, was praised for its swift formation. Oluwole commended the Governor for his prompt action following the President’s minimum wage decree, underscoring the Governor’s commitment to workers’ welfare.
The 18-member committee includes commissioners, bureaucrats, labour leaders, and private sector representatives, reflecting a comprehensive approach to the wage adjustment process.
