Kogi State celebrates medal-winning athletes

Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Honourable Aridaojo Anyebe, has hosted medal-winning athletes for their outstanding performance at various national competitions.

The athletes won two trophies, four silvers and four bronze medals in various sports events including boxing, table tennis, cricket, beach volleyball amongst others, received certificates of recognition during the ceremony.

Speaking at the reception ceremony organised for them, Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Anyebe appreciated them for making the state proud adding that their presence at the event was a reflection of their hardwok and determination.

He congratulated and praised the various athletes, coaches and staff of the ministry for their support and cooperation that has enabled the state attain its current status at the national level.

The commissioner used the forum to congratulate the athletes who won medals acknowledging that they have earned the honour through sacrifice and countless hours of training.

 

“We are proud of you and your achievements and encourage you to remain humble and continue to strive for success” he added.

He equally urged the athletes who did not bring home any medal not to be discouraged but remain hopeful and strive for medals in the future.

Hon. Anyebe acknowledged the vital role sports plays in creating a platform for athletes to learn valuable lessons, teamwork, resilience, respect and the importance of dignity of labour.

While appreciating God for the achievements recorded since assuming office, Hon Anyebe applauded Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, for his support and encouragement through the release of funds amongst others for Kogi athletes to compete favourably amongst their counterparts from other states.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Momoh Steven, explained that the reception was organised not only to celebrate the athletes for their outstanding accomplishments, but also to serve as a motivation to other young talents to aspire to excellence and to make meaningful contributions to sports development in Kogi State.

He also praised Governor Ododo for demonstrating commitment to youth empowerment and sports development noting that his support for sports will create opportunities for young talents to excel and bring honour to the state.

In the same manner, he praised the Sports commissioner for his visionary leadership commitment and drive towards repositioning sports in Kogi State. He noted that under his watch, the ministry has continued to create opportunities for sports men and women to compete favourably at different levels.

He equally charged the athletes to see their achievements as a call to strive for greater glory.

“Let this achievements also spur greater commitment and renewed determination because success comes with greater responsibility and expectations” he added.

Earlier, the Director of Sports, Kogi State Sports Council, Mr. James Igah,commended the athletes for their performance and exemplary conduct in the various competitions they participated in.

According to him, the state contingents put up strong showing in disciplines like wrestling, boxing, beach volleyball, cricket and table tennis; sweeping two trophies , four silvers and four bronze medals for their efforts.

Contributing, the Director of Sports Development of the Ministry, Paul Aje, attributed the achievements recoded in recent times to the commitment to ensuring Kogi athletes excel across all disciplines.
