Kogi Poly matriculates 4,591, Rector urges students to shun social vices

Kogi State Polytechnic has matriculated a total of 4,591 students for the 2025/2026 academic session during its 33rd matriculation ceremony held at the institution’s main campus in Lokoja.

The new intakes comprises of 2,460 National Diploma (ND) and 2,131 Higher National Diploma (HND) students, spread across seven schools and 57 academic programmes.

Addressing the matriculants, the Rector, Professor Ogbo Usman, described the ceremony as a “pivotal moment” in their academic journeys. He noted that this marks the sixth matriculation ceremony he has presided over since assuming office.

Highlighting the institution’s growing national reputation, Prof. Usman revealed that the current batch includes students from 33 states across the federation.

According to him, this represents over 91 percent of Nigeria, demonstrating the institution’s status as a national center for technical and vocational education..

The Rector further disclosed that 19 of the 57 current academic programmes, representing a 33 percent expansion, were introduced under his leadership. He emphasized that this growth was a deliberate strategy to align with national manpower needs and global best practices in technical education.

While urging the students to shun social vices and remain focused on their studies, Prof. Usman assured them of a supportive learning environment. He highlighted the availability of modern laboratories, ICT-driven examination processes, a functional library, and enhanced entrepreneurial training facilities.

He concluded by expressing gratitude to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, for prioritising staff welfare and providing the resources necessary for the institution’s continued growth.
