From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Egbewole, SAN, has extended Christmas greetings to Christian members of the University community, urging them to embrace the values of love, humility and selfless service which the season represents.

In a goodwill message issued on Christmas Eve through the Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun, the Vice Chancellor, described Christmas as a period of joy and deep reflection, calling on Christians to show gratitude to God for His mercies and blessings.

According to Prof. Egbewole, the birth of Jesus Christ symbolises timeless virtues that should guide personal conduct and communal life. He said Christians must strive to be Christlike in their daily interactions, especially within the academic environment.

“Christmas reminds us of hope, generosity and the strength of community. These are values that should define our relationships and guide our actions within and outside the University,” he said.

He assured the University community that the management would continue to uphold fairness, mutual respect and inclusiveness, irrespective of ethnic background or religious beliefs.

Prof. Egbewole, who also serves as Secretary-General of the Association of West African Universities, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the welfare and well-being of staff and students, stressing that their interests would remain a top priority.

While advising moderation during the festivities, he wished members of the University community a peaceful Christmas and expressed hope that the New Year would bring renewed purpose, progress and notable achievements.
