The Wife of the Kogi State Governor, Hajia Sefinat Usman Ododo, has distributed over 3,750 school essentials to pupils across 27 schools in six Local Government Areas of the state under her back-to-school empowerment initiative.
For some of the children, the intervention meant walking into their classrooms with a new school bag, shoes, books and other learning materials, items that could otherwise have been difficult for their families to provide.

The intervention, implemented from September 28 to October 2 through the Ohunene Empowerment Initiative (OEI), founded by the First Lady, reached 27 schools across Adavi, Bassa, Dekina, Kabba, Koton-Karfe and Ogori/Magongo Local Government Areas.
Representing Her Excellency throughout the exercise, the Coordinator of the Ohunene Empowerment Initiative, Mrs Mary Agamalafiya, led the distribution of the school essentials to beneficiaries across the six LGAs.
More than 3,750 school essentials, including school bags, books, calculators, mathematical sets, pencil cases, lunch bags, shoes and water bottles, were distributed to pupils and students.
The beneficiaries included children in Nursery classes, Primary 2 to 4 and Junior Secondary School 1 to 3, while pupils and students in other classes also benefited in several of the schools visited.

The 27 schools comprised six in Kabba, five in Adavi, five in Dekina, four in Bassa, four in Ogori/Magongo and three in Koton-Karfe, covering both primary and secondary schools.
The exercise also provided an opportunity for engagement with teachers and school communities, who witnessed first-hand the impact of the support on their pupils and students.
The First Lady’s initiative recognises that supporting children’s education goes beyond classroom infrastructure, with access to basic learning materials playing an important role in helping pupils and students participate effectively in school activities.
