The Deputy Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Comfort Nwuchiola Egwaba, has expressed deep sorrow over the reported violent clash between communities in Ibaji Local Government Area and Fulani herdsmen, particularly in Ejule Ojebe, which reportedly led to the loss of lives.

The Deputy Speaker, disclosed this in a press statement issued on Monday, describing the incident as “painful and heartbreaking.” She noted that it has brought immense grief to affected families and the wider Ibaji community.

She strongly condemned all forms of violence, stressing that no misunderstanding should ever result in the killing of innocent people or disrupt the long-standing peaceful coexistence among residents.

The Deputy Speaker extended her heartfelt condolence to families who lost loved ones in the clash, praying that God grants them comfort and strength during the difficult period.

She called on security agencies and relevant authorities to act swiftly to restore peace in the affected areas, ensure the protection of lives and property, and bring those responsible for the violence to justice.

According to her, there is an urgent need for proactive and lasting measures that address the root cause of such conflicts in order to prevent future occurrences.

Egwaba also appealed to community leaders, youths, and residents of Ibaji to remain calm and cooperate fully with law enforcement agencies. She warned against the spread of unverified information capable of escalating tensions and worsening the situation.

“As your representative, I remain committed to working with the state government, security agencies, and traditional institutions to ensure the safety of our communities and the preservation of peace in Ibaji,” she said.

She concluded by praying for peace to return to the area and for divine comfort for all those affected by the tragic incident.
