From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin
An Ilorin Magistrate Court has ordered the remand of Abdulrahman Bello, a self-acclaimed Islamic cleric, alongside five others over the alleged murder of a final-year student of Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin.
The court, presided over by Magistrate Sanusi Mohammed, adjourned the case till March 6, 2025.
The suspects face charges of criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide, possession of human parts, and armed robbery.
The offences contravene sections of the Penal Code, Kwara State’s prohibition law on human parts dealings, and Nigeria’s Robbery and Firearms Act.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), Bello and his co-accused allegedly lured the victim, Adefalu Hasfat Yetunde, under false pretenses before killing her for ritual purposes. Police investigations revealed that the suspects were part of an occult group involved in similar crimes.
“The said phone was tracked and traced to one Abdulrahman Bello, which led to his arrest. Upon arrest, he voluntarily confessed to the crime and led investigators to the recovery of some parts of the victim’s body in his house,” the charge sheet read.
The other suspects, Ahmed Abdulwasiu, Suleiman Muhyideen, Jamiu Uthman, and Abdulrahmon Jamiu, were also arrested based on Bello’s confession. The police disclosed that they had been under investigation for the disappearance of other individuals in Kwara State.
Meanwhile, the victim’s father, Adefalu Ibrahim, recounted his ordeal, stating that his daughter had attended a naming ceremony before she went missing. “She left home for her friend’s house but never returned. We called her several times, but there was no response,” he said.
The case has sparked outrage in Ilorin, with residents demanding justice for the slain student.
