Group pushes for creation of Okura State

A group known as Okura State Movement (OSM), from Igala and Bassa extraction in Kogi State, has set out plan to actualise the creation of Okura State from the present Kogi State.
In a report which was presented to the Movement’s Chairman for onward submission to the members of the National Assembly, Abuja for legislative action, the Group hinted that all is now set for the actualisation of its longstanding desire.
Speaking on the creation of Okura State after receiving the report from the committee, the Chairman of the Movement, Chief Robert Audu, who is the Agenyi Ata Igala, said from the meeting held in Idah, Kogi State recently, all the stakeholders have accepted and adopted the report for the creation of Okura State.
The presentation which was done on Sunday evening in Abuja, brought together who’s who from amongst the Igala and Bassa tribes across the country.
Audu called on all sons and daughters of Igala and Bassa across the globe to assist in whatever way to actualise the desired goal of seeing to the creation of the new state.
The proposed Okura State presently have nine (9) Local Government Areas and it has many mineral resources that can make it stand on his own with a vibrant base for Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) that can sustain the said state.
Chief Audu equally thanked the committee members for a job well done; while he pointed out that, the said state can take care of itself in terms of revenue, adding that, mineral resources such as, oil, coal, lime among others are found in abundance in the area.
Reacting, the Deputy Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Rt. Honourable Abdullahi Ibrahim Ali, popularly known as Halims, assured that the message will be taken to the appropriate authorities.
The Deputy Majority Leader, applauded the effort of everyone and prayed that God grants the desires of the people.
He called on all and sundry to join hands together to make it possible, saying that, it is good to join a movement where someone’s name can be mentioned positively at the foundational stage rather than waiting until the vision is achieved.
He affirmed, “I, Honourable Halims, I am totally committed to the actualisation of the creation of Okura State and I urge everyone to join hands so that no one would be left behind. I am also requesting for continuous prayers for those who are in the forefront of the movement.
Those in attendance are: Professor Godwin Ogbadu, Abdullahi Haruna (SAN), Robert Usman Audu, Frank Ineke, Barr Haruna O.Yusuf and Hon. Bala Zakari.
Others are: Ibrahim Enejoh, Pst. Adejoh Adams, Akwu Umar Godwin, Hon. Enoch Precious, Dr James Odaudu, Cyprian A. Adejoh and Barr Daniel Daudu Manolo.
