Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, on Wednesday highlighted his administration’s developmental strides at the 59th National Conference of the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU), held at the forecourt of the Emir’s palace in Ilorin.
Governor AbdulRazaq, commended the Emir of Ilorin, Dr. Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, and stakeholders for their unwavering support, attributing the state’s progress to their collective efforts.
He also lauded the IEDPU for its contributions to peace and harmony within and outside the Ilorin Emirate.
Addressing the gathering, the Governor, detailed the achievements of his urban renewal initiative, which has seen the rehabilitation and upgrading of several roads across Ilorin and beyond.
Projects like the Sulu-Gambari Road, Oja Oba, Tanke Junction, and Ahmadu Bello Way, were highlighted as part of efforts to position Ilorin alongside other leading capital cities in Nigeria.
“Yes, we are proudly transforming the landscape of Ilorin,” AbdulRazaq said. “From Sulu-Gambari Road to Omoda and Challenge, Ilorin now stands shoulder to shoulder with leading cities in our country as we rapidly upgrade the infrastructure and restore law and order for the good of all.”
The Governor also revealed plans for the Ilorin Smart City project, the revival of the Dada Pottery industry, and the construction of 250 housing units in 2025.
Additionally, he announced that the Kwara State University of Education, Ilorin, is set to commence operations in 2025, further expanding the state’s educational infrastructure.
The IEDPU President, Abdulmumin Ayo AbdulMalik, praised the government’s urban renewal efforts, describing them as vital for the beautification and growth of Ilorin and Kwara State.
He urged the government to equip the union’s Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari Skills Acquisition Hub with modern facilities to enhance youth empowerment.
Ambassador Yahya Seriki, the event’s chief launcher, donated N100 million towards ongoing IEDPU projects, while Prof. Oba, who chaired the event, commended Governor AbdulRazaq for his focus on peace, infrastructure, and social protection programs.
The conference, attended by top government officials, lawmakers, and eminent sons and daughters of the Emirate, underscored the administration’s commitment to sustainable development and collective prosperity in Kwara State.
