The German Development Cooperation, implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, under the Nigerian Energy Support Programme (NESP), has shown its intention to collaborate with Nigerian Electricity Management Services (NEMSA), on renewable energy, and Solar Mini-grid standard.
In a press statement issued and signed by the head Public Affairs Unit, Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA), Mrs Ama Umoren, said the GIZ has paid a courtesy visit to NEMSA headquarters in Abuja.
The visit was aimed at strengthening the ongoing collaboration between NEMSA and the Nigerian Energy Support Programme (NESP), particularly in the areas of renewable energy development, regulatory standards, and capacity building for the Nigerian electricity sector.
Speaking during the visit, the leader of the delegation Mr. Milot Karid, congratulated the leadership of NEMSA and reiterated GIZ’s commitment to sustaining the strong partnership that has existed between both institutions over the years.

Highlighting the significant milestones achieved through the collaboration with NEMSA, Milot Karid said, the successful development of the Guidelines for the Inspection and Certification of Solar Mini-Grids in Nigeria is one thing that has been achieved.
The partnership has also supported targeted capacity-building initiatives for NEMSA personnel, aimed at strengthening the Agency’s technical capabilities in ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards within Nigeria’s growing renewable energy sector, he added.
Receiving the Team, Engr. Olusegun Adesayo, who is the MD/CEO, NEMSA and Chief Electrical Inspector of the Federation, reaffirmed its commitment to promoting electrical safety, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI), while expressing appreciation to GIZ and the European Union for their continued support toward strengthening Nigeria’s power sector.
He added that the next steps as the collaboration continues will be the formal launch of the guidelines and deeper collaboration in advancing renewable energy deployment, energy efficiency, and rural electrification in Nigeria.
The Nigerian Energy Support Programme (NESP), is a technical assistance programme co-funded by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and implemented by GIZ in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Power.
Both organisations reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions, improving standards in renewable energy deployment, and supporting Nigeria’s transition to a safe, efficient, and sustainable electricity sector.
