From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

A final year student of Summit University, Offa, Adebayo Happiness, alongside his parents and an accomplice, has been arraigned at the Kwara State Chief Magistrate Court, Ilorin, for the alleged murder of a 21-year-old graduate, Awesu Mojisola, from Kwara State College of Health Technology, Offa.

Mojisola was reportedly lured to an Ilorin hotel under the guise of attending a post-graduation party on August 10, 2024, where she was allegedly killed by Happiness.

The suspect was accused of deceiving Mojisola into believing she was attending a sign-out party, only to end her life in the hotel room.

Happiness’ parents, Adebayo Adeniyi and Bukola Adeniyi, along with a 24-year-old accomplice, Timileyin Kolawole, were also charged in connection with the crime.

They are facing charges of criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide, theft, false personation, and destruction of evidence under various sections of the Penal Code and Cybercrime Prevention and Prohibition Law.

According to the prosecution led by ASP Isaac Yakub, Mojisola’s disappearance was reported on August 14, 2024, by her roommate, Blessing Ogungbenro, after she lost contact with Mojisola.

The investigation revealed that Happiness lured Mojisola to Ilorin, killed her in the early hours of August 10, and fled with her iPhone 11 Pro and N15,600.

The prosecution further revealed that Happiness’ mother helped him hide the victim’s SIM card, while his father concealed the stolen iPhone in a family car.

The defense counsel, Mr. A. Iwalaye, requested bail for the suspects, assuring the court of their willingness to appear regularly in court and provide reliable sureties.

However, the prosecutor opposed the bail request, citing the seriousness of the crime.

Chief Magistrate Wahab Saka, ordered the remand of all suspects at the Federal Correctional Center, Oke Kura, Ilorin. The case has been adjourned until September 12, 2024, for further hearing.
