The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has urged the Edo State electorates to chose whoever they want, as the right of electing their leaders rest with them.
INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, who stated this recently in Edo state while on assessment and preparedness visit, said, INEC would conduct a free, fair and credible election in the state.
According to him, “the responsibility of choosing the next governor of Edo state rest entirely in the hands of Edo voters. All registered voters in Edo state should come en masse to vote for the party and candidate of their choice.
“We will protect the integrity of the process and uphold the choice made by the electorates.
Prof Yakubu who visited three local government areas (Oredo, Egor and Ikpeoba Okha), expressed satisfaction with all the levels of preparation at the INEC offices as well as the two centres visited for the mock accreditation exercise.
He however admitted that, there were little logistic issues that needed to be addressed.
While meeting with the Electoral Officers (EO), in the 18 local government areas of the state, he said “there are little issues that we are going to address. Issue of non sensitive materials. Though, I am absolutely certain that by the end of this week, we will address those issues.
“Election is a multi-stakeholder activity and I am appealing to everyone involved to conduct themselves in an orderly manner,” he said.
