*Promises continued security efforts

From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to justice following the brutal killing of travelers in Uromi, Edo State.

The governor paid a condolence visit to the families of the victims, many of whom hailed from Bankure Local Government Area of Kano State.

Governor Okpebholo, visibly moved by the tragic incident, assured the bereaved families and the people of Kano that the perpetrators would face the full wrath of the law.

“I was deeply touched when I received the news of the incident at night. By 4 a.m., I left Abuja and rushed to Uromi to meet with the affected families. During my campaign, your people supported me, and I stand with you in this time of grief,” he stated.

He further revealed that security agencies had made progress in their investigations, with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, personally directing law enforcement to track down those responsible.

“So far, about 14 suspects have been arrested, and after the holiday, they will be transferred to Abuja for further interrogation. More arrests will follow as investigations continue,” he assured.

In response, Kano State Governor commended Governor Okpebholo for his swift intervention and support.

“It is well known that our people were returning from Port Harcourt when they were brutally murdered. Governor Okpebholo immediately visited the scene, ensured the corpses were retrieved, and arranged for proper burial. His commitment to justice reassures us,” the Kano governor said.

Speaking on behalf of the Arewa community in Edo, Badamasi Sally advised that the attack should not be used to create division.

“I was born and raised in Edo State, and we have always maintained a peaceful relationship with the people here. This incident should not be used to smear the reputation of the Edo State Government,” he said. Adding that some residents of Uromi helped rescue victims during the attack.

Similarly, Fred Akhigbe, leader of the Edo community in Kano, urged both communities to maintain peace.

“We must remember that we are all one. There is no need for conflict between us. We commend both governors for their leadership and commitment to justice,” he said.

Governor Okpebholo assured that security agencies would intensify their efforts to bring all culprits to book, reinforcing his administration’s stance on justice and national unity.
