*as over 600 members benefit from free medical outreach

From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

A Muslim organisation, the Daaru-r-Rahmat Islamic Society (DARMAT), has appealed to government at all levels to show greater commitment to healthcare delivery, stressing that accessible medical services are critical to improving the quality of life of Nigerians.

The National Ameer of the society, Sheikh Misibaudeen Olawale, made the call in Ilorin recently, while reflecting on the outcome of a five-week free healthcare programme organised for members of the organisation.

According to him, the medical outreach, organised in collaboration with the DARMAT Islamic Foundation and the DARMAT Medical Team, provided free consultation, treatment and drugs to more than 600 members.

Olawale said the initiative was in line with the organisation’s core mission of service to humanity, noting that healthcare remains a major pillar of human development.

“The importance of healthcare delivery cannot be overemphasised. Apart from promoting good living, effective healthcare, it also helps to improve the lifespan of human beings,” the cleric said.

He explained that DARMAT has continued to prioritise the wellbeing of its members to enable them live productive and peaceful lives within society.

Providing details of the programme, he said the free healthcare exercise which commenced on November 13, 2025, initially targeting over 400 beneficiaries, ended on December 11, 2025.

He noted that the programme also featured special health talks on breast and cervical cancer to raise awareness among members.

Olawale pledged that the free healthcare initiative would be sustained as a routine programme, assuring members that the organisation would continue to complement government efforts, particularly in extending healthcare services to rural communities.

He also urged members of DARMAT to remain supportive of the organisation, saying such cooperation would make it possible to introduce more programmes that would be of immense benefit to them and the wider society.
