Tension has gripped Ogori community in Ogori/Magongo Local Government Area of Kogi State following the gruesome murder of an old woman believed to be between 90 and 100 years old.
The woman, described by neighbours as easy-going and peaceful, was reportedly murdered by yet-to-be-identified assailants in her home at Oshobane area of Ogori.
Sources in the community said the deceased, who had been blind for some years, was found in a pool of her blood inside her room, sparking panic and apprehension among residents.
The circumstances surrounding the killing remain unclear as at press time, and no arrest has been made. The motive for the murder is yet to be ascertained.
Residents who spoke to The Graphic said the community has been thrown into fear and mourning, noting that such a brutal slaughter has not been witnessed in Ogori for decades.
According to them, the last time anyone was murdered in such a brutal manner in the town was in the 1960s, and the perpetrator was eventually traced to Ososo in Edo State.

“The entire Oshobane and Ogori as a whole is in shock. Mama was a very easy-going woman, blind and helpless. Nobody can understand why anyone would do this to her,” a resident said.
Efforts to get the reaction of the police were unsuccessful as at the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, community elders have called for calm and urged security agencies to thoroughly investigate the incident and bring the culprits to justice.
