The All Progressives Congress (APC), in Kwara State, has called on its members and supporters to take the ongoing voter registration exercise seriously, describing it as the foundation for sustaining the party’s dominance in the state and across the country.
At a sensitisation programme held at the Arca Santa Arena in Ilorin, top government officials, party leaders, lawmakers and technocrats, converged to mobilise members on voter registration and collective security efforts.
State APC Chairman, Prince Sunday Fagbemi, said participation in voter registration is more than a civic duty, stressing that without a voter’s card, no one can claim full membership of any political party.
“As APC faithful, your mobilisation for voter registration will amplify the gains of our administration, ensuring our victory in 2027,” he declared.
“I charge each of you to ensure that at least 20 more persons register to vote through your own efforts. That is the way to thank the President and the Governor for their commitment to sustainable development in our state.”
Fagbemi maintained that the APC’s popularity in Kwara is a product of tangible achievements under Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, ranging from roads and schools to agriculture, health care, digital economy and social protection.
Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Danladi, engaged party members in an interactive “Aye and No” session, to gauge their commitment to the exercise, urging them to approach the registration with seriousness.
Former INEC staff, Alhaji Muhammed Yusuf, applauded the ruling party for complementing INEC’s efforts in civic education.
He explained that the voter registration exercise is meant for those who just turned 18, those who lost or damaged their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), and those who need to transfer their polling units.
As of Friday, 89,056 Kwarans had registered online, while 10,547 had completed their physical registration. Chairman of SUBEB, Prof Shehu Raheem Adaramaja, warned that over 70,000 registrants must still visit INEC offices to finalise their process.
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Works, Engr. Abdulqowiyu Olododo, defended the government’s road projects, insisting that contrary to some claims, 70 percent of contracts were awarded to local contractors.
On security, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Security, Alhaji Muyideen Aliyu, revealed that plans are at an advanced stage to recruit and equip 2,600 forest guards to work with security agencies in tackling crimes in rural areas.
Chairman of the Niger River Basin Development Authority, Abdullateef Alakawa, also urged citizens to see their PVCs as a weapon to elect leaders of their choice while calling for vigilance and support for security agencies.
“The government cannot do it alone,” he said. “Security is everybody’s business. When you see something, say something.”
The event was attended by top personalities, including SSG Prof Mamman Jibril, Hon Ahmed Saba, Hon Gbenga Makanjuola, Prof Abdulganiyu Ambali, KWASU Vice Chancellor Prof Shaykh Jimoh, and his deputy, Prof Moshood Mahmud Jimba.
