In preparation to Adamawa state congress and national convention, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) state chapter, has conducted the LG Congress across the 21 LGAs in the state through consensus.
The Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Local Government Congress committee in Adamawa State, Hon. David Iorhemba, lauded party members for peaceful conduct of the congresses and the emergence of majority local government exco through consensus.
The Committee Chairman and former Speaker Benue state House of Assembly, who monitored the exercise in Yola South, Yola North and Girei local governments was happy and appreciated the turn out of delegates at the congress.
Hon. Iorhemen while speaking with journalists immediately after the election in Yola, lauded party members for their orderly and peaceful conduct.
He noted that, the choice to adopt consensus across most councils demonstrated the members’ desire to consolidate the party’s strength ahead of further elections.
The congress committee chairman also commended Hon. David Iorhemba applauded Adamawa state, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for providing the leadership that has deepened the party’s presence at both the state and grassroots levels. He maintained that the governor’s guidance has been central to the PDP’s stability and growth in Adamawa.
Also Girei Local Government stakeholders, including the Member representing the constituency at the State House of Assembly, Hon. Abubakar Abdullahi, and PDP Girei Chairman, Adamu Atiku, applauded the conduct of the exercise.
Describing the process as smooth and orderly, stressing that it has positioned the PDP as a more cohesive and battle-ready party. Both expressed confidence that with the current level of unity, the PDP is prepared to reclaim political leadership come 2027 general elections.
However, the Party Appeal Committee is expected to commence sittings on Sunday to entertain any petition that may arise from the congresses. Party officials, however, expressed optimism that the peaceful conduct witnessed would translate to minimal disputes.
As state congress is scheduled next Saturday, Party leaders said, they are confident that the ward and local government congresses, will hold with transparency, orderliness, and inclusiveness guiding the process.
Adding that, with the successful conclusion of both ward and local government congresses, the PDP in Adamawa believes it has taken a firm step in strengthening its grassroots structures. The party officials said the exercise has further presented the PDP as a united and formidable force in the state, politically set ahead of 2027 polls.
