From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has strengthened military operations in the state by inaugurating key infrastructure projects and donating operational vehicles to the 22 Armoured Brigade in Sobi.

This move reaffirms his administration’s commitment to security and enhancing operational efficiency.

The Governor, on Monday, commissioned the newly constructed Quarter Guard and remodelled Brigade Headquarters, which were undertaken by the Nigerian Army.

He also handed over three new vehicles and 10 motorcycles to boost the Brigade’s operational capacity.

AbdulRazaq emphasised the importance of providing necessary infrastructure for the military, saying, “It is not just about acquiring weapons; providing the necessary infrastructure for the military is equally important.”

This effort demonstrates his appreciation for the Nigerian Army’s efforts in maintaining peace and security in Kwara State.

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Ibadan, Maj. Gen. Obinna Onubogu, commended the Governor’s continued support, noting that the donations would further enhance security in the state.

“Kwara enjoys relative peace, but there are areas of concern that we have managed effectively. Thanks to the Governor’s unwavering support,” Onubogu said.

“These vehicles and motorcycles will improve our mobility and response time, strengthening our security operations.”

Commander of the 22 Armoured Brigade, Maj. Gen. Oluwafemi Williams, also lauded the Governor’s interventions, highlighting that the Brigade’s newly remodelled headquarters would provide a more conducive working environment for officers.

“This project aligns with the Army Chief’s philosophy of sustaining a culture of maintenance,” Williams noted. “It wouldn’t have been possible without the logistic support of the COAS and the interventions of the Governor.”

The event was attended by top military officers, including the Provost of the Nigerian Army College of Education, Major General Umar Nasir Babangida, reflecting the significance of the state’s partnership with security agencies in safeguarding Kwara.
