From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on ICT and Cybersecurity, Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, has urged Nigerians to embrace informed decision-making and seize the numerous business opportunities available across the country.

Speaking on the need for self-reliance and collaboration, at the Companion National Elective Conference in Kwara State with the theme, “Thriving Amidst Adversity: Strategies for Survival in Nigeria’s Challenging Economy,” the Ogun Central lawmaker, said many Nigerians fail to see prospects in their immediate environment because they focus on complaints rather than solutions.

“In Kwara State alone, there are 193 wards, and each has a medical facility. Those who are smart work together to set up pharmacies around these facilities. Others open canteens to feed workers and visitors. These are people who see opportunities where others only ask why government chose one location over another,” Salisu said.

The senator stressed that Nigeria’s large population creates constant demand for goods and services, meaning there will always be space for entrepreneurs.

“You cannot have an economy of this size, with over 200 million people who must eat every day, and run out of opportunities. Even something as simple as selling iced water will always have customers. There will never be a time when opportunities evaporate,” he added.

Salisu called on Nigerians, especially the youth, to invest in acquiring the right knowledge, staying informed, and collaborating with others to turn challenges into profitable ventures.
