Kogi State Head of Service, Dr. Elijah Evinemi, has encouraged residents to embrace tree planting as part of efforts to mitigate the adverse effects of climate change and create a sustainable environment.

Dr. Elijah Evinemi made the call during a tree planting campaign initiated as part of activities to mark the 2025 Civil Service Week in Lokoja.

Speaking during the tree planting exercise, the Head of Service, Dr. Evinemi, said the initiative aligns with both the United Nations and the Federal Government’s policy of encouraging afforestation over deforestation.

According to him, “We are here to plant this tree in line with the UN and Federal Government initiative of encouraging tree planting. Instead of deforestation, we are promoting afforestation.”

He explained that the tree planting activity is one of the programmes lined up for the 2025 Civil Service Week, aimed at creating awareness on the importance of tree planting, which is essential for human survival in any society.

Dr. Evinemi noted that the exercise also reflects the vision of the state government under Governor Alhaji Usman Ahmed Ododo, who has consistently promoted policies that protect and preserve the environment.

We are doing our part as civil servants in the state, but we also want to encourage other agencies, organisations, and individuals to plant trees in their surroundings. It’s good for people, and it’s good for the environment, he added.
