The Kwara State Government, has reiterated its commitment to quality health education and human capital development with a renewed assurance of support for the training of competent healthcare professionals across the state.

This assurance was given by the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Hajia Sa’adatu Kawu, during a working visit to the Kwara State College of Nursing Sciences, Ilorin, where she inspected ongoing academic activities and infrastructural development at the institution.

Accompanied by the Director of Tertiary Health Education in the Ministry, Mrs. Sherifat Giwa, the Commissioner expressed satisfaction with the condition of facilities at the college, describing them as a reflection of the state Government’s investment in the health sector.

“I am impressed with the facilities and academic atmosphere here. What we’ve seen today is a clear result of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s sustained focus on improving the standard of tertiary health education in Kwara,” she said.

She praised the college’s management and staff for their resilience and commitment to excellence in academic training and professional ethics, adding that their contributions are vital to the delivery of quality healthcare services across the state.

“I must commend you all for your dedication to nurturing the next generation of healthcare professionals. Your sacrifices and discipline are helping to build a strong healthcare workforce for our state,” she added.

Responding to some of the challenges highlighted by the college authorities, the Commissioner assured that the ministry would work closely with the institution to address key concerns, particularly those affecting the learning environment.

In her remarks, the Provost of the College, Alhaja Yusuf Iyabo, who led the management team in receiving the Commissioner, expressed gratitude to the state government for its continued support.

“Governor AbdulRazaq has remained a strong pillar behind our progress. His unwavering support has enabled us to improve both academic standards and infrastructure,” she stated.

Alhaja Yusuf highlighted the college’s diverse programmes, including Nursing, Midwifery, Post-Basic Nursing, and both National and Higher National Diplomas in Nursing Sciences. She noted that the Community Midwifery programme is specifically designed to address healthcare needs at the grassroots, with many students receiving community-based sponsorship.

The Commissioner and her team toured key facilities including lecture halls, laboratories, practical rooms, the library, administration block, and hostels, while engaging with staff and students to understand their needs and challenges.

The visit underscored the state government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen healthcare training institutions and ensure the availability of qualified professionals across all levels of the healthcare delivery system in Kwara.
