Kogi Governor’s wife provides succor for 500 widows

Kogi First Lady, Hajia Sefinat Ododo has extended succor to 500 widows across the 21 Local Government Areas of the state, pledging more commitment and support to them.

The beneficiaries received food stuff,cash and clothing materials during the ceremony.

Speaking at the event held on Saturday in Lokoja, she emphasised the need for collective efforts in uplifting widows, ensuring they receive the care and necessary assistance to rebuild their lives.

While expressing her commitment, the first lady reassured widows that her doors remain open to them.

The first lady who coordinated the distribution of the financial support and relief items, urged the widows to engage in gainful ventures.

She acknowledged the difficulties they face, especially in raising children alone, and vowed to provide the necessary support to ease their burdens.

“I assure you that my husband will continue to support and prioritise the welfare of women especially the widows in the state” she added.

The first lady also donated additional N100,000 each, to 10 widows who took part in the beauty pageant entertainment during the event, as empowerment fund to start or boost their existing businesses.

The first lady noted that the relief items and monetary distribution was part of her empowerment programme, aimed at providing relief to vulnerable women in the state.

Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajia. Fatima Momoh, while speaking at the event, commended the Haija Sefinat Ododo for her unwavering commitment to the well-being of widows in the state.

She praised her proactive approach in ensuring that these vulnerable women are not left behind, emphasising that her initiatives have given widows the renewed hope for a better future.

Mrs. Ojone Ojatah, Coordinator of widow’s Care programme in the state, appreciated the first lady for her genuine concern to the plight of widows in the state.

She noted that the Hajia Sefinat Ododo has given them the listening ear they have never received before now.

On behalf of the beneficiaries, she applauded the first lady for her open-door policy which she noted has provided the much needed relief for many struggling widows in the state.
