The Kogi State Medical Student Association (KOMSA), has appealed to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo to prioritise the welfare of medical students in the state.

The National President of the association, Comrade Omeiza Samuel, who spoke on behalf of the association, decried the little recognition given to the medical students in terms of bursary payment.

Adeku said ‘less than 30% of medical students nationwide benefited from the state bursary.

He stated that despite paying the highest tuition in all Nigerian institutions across the country, it’s unfortunate that only the law students received a special package when it comes to bursary payment.

The President further stated that the 30,000 naira bursary payment promised by the state government is yet to be received by majority of the medical students who applied.

“This is in contrast to law students who got 300,000 naira for their law school program,” he said.

In his words “Your Excellency we want to appreciate the good works that you have been doing in Kogi state, Kogi today is always on the news positively. We were happy to hear about the bursary which you promised students of Kogi origin but to our shock most medical students did not receive the 30,000 naira even when our colleague from the law schools were paid 300,000 naira.

We are appealing that you consider us in your plans as the cost of medical education is the highest in any university in Nigeria. Last year we had to contribute to cater for the tuition fee of our students in the university of Jos. As the National President, my school fees currently stands at 570,000 naira. Since my 400 level class I have not been able to buy a single medical textbook. This is the reality of most of us in medical school.”

This appeal came barely a week after the Kogi State Scholarship Board credited some students account for the 2025 Kogi State students’ bursary.
