Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi State, has announced plans to introduce regular, unannounced inspections at all Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) across the state.
This move aims to ensure that these critical healthcare facilities are providing top-notch services to the community.
The announcement was made by the Deputy Governor, Comrade Joel Salifu, representing Governor Ododo, during a stakeholder’s engagement on primary healthcare revitalization held in Lokoja, the state capital recently.
This groundbreaking initiative is spearheaded by the Primary Healthcare Task Force in partnership with Local Government authorities and traditional rulers.

Its primary objective is to foster a culture of accountability, streamline coordination efforts, and significantly improve the quality of services delivered by PHCs, ultimately enhancing the overall healthcare experience for citizens.
The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to enhancing healthcare services, emphasising the vital role PHCs play in saving lives.
He noted that PHCs are crucial in reducing maternal and infant mortality rates, increasing immunisation coverage, and promoting awareness on the significance of primary healthcare in the state’s healthcare system.
“Our administration is determined to address the challenges in the primary healthcare system and ensure better health outcomes for our citizens. This will be achieved through improved data collection and adherence to best practices in case management across all PHCs,” the Governor stated.
Governor Ododo extended his heartfelt appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his steadfast commitment to healthcare reforms nationwide. The Governor acknowledged that the president’s unwavering support has played a pivotal role in propelling the state’s healthcare initiatives forward.
Dr. Abdulazeez Adams, the State Commissioner for Health, underscored the vital importance of collaboration among stakeholders in driving the success and sustainability of healthcare initiatives.
He further stressed that Kogi State has made significant strides in enhancing its primary healthcare system, with at least one Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC), now operational in each of the state’s 239 wards adding that the PHCs are not only up and running but also receiving the necessary funding to ensure their continued operation.
“Looking ahead, plans are in motion to increase the number of fully functional PHCs across all wards, further expanding access to quality healthcare for residents throughout the state,” the Commissioner stated.
The Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, His Royal Majesty, Ahmed Tijani Muhammed Anaje, praised the Ministry of Health for its tireless efforts to enhance primary healthcare services.
He also reaffirmed the commitment of traditional rulers to actively monitor and supervise Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) within their jurisdictions, ensuring these facilities maintain the highest standards of service delivery.
