From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin.

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Yusha’u Dogara Ahmed, has described the NYSC scheme as a platform for corps members to explore their vast potentials.

General Ahmed, stated this while addressing the 2024 Batch C, Stream 2 corps members, during their ongoing orientation course, at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Yikpata, Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State.

Also speaking during his routine tour of camps, the NYSC DG, emphasised the importance of self-reflection and planning, urging corps members to focus on their personal growth and avoid distractions.

He cautioned them to use their service year as a period of reflection on their lives and future aspirations.

“You must use this year to reflect on your lives and future. Avoid frivolities and stay focused. The NYSC has provided you with the opportunity to develop your skills and prepare for a productive future,” he said.

General Ahmed also warned corps members against embarking on unauthorised journeys, highlighting the dangers associated with such travels.

“Unauthorised journeys expose you to hazards and dangers. If you must travel, ensure it is during the day,” he advised.

He further encouraged the participants to take full advantage of the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program, urging them to acquire at least two skills during their service year.

He revealed that NYSC has partnered with government and private organizations to facilitate access to funding for corps members ready to venture into entrepreneurship.

In addition, the DG advised the corps members to prioritise their safety throughout their service year and wished them a successful orientation exercise.

The event was attended by NYSC officials, camp coordinators, and other stakeholders.
