Gunmen ambush on Osi/Obbo-Aiyegunle road: Kwara Police rescue 20 abducted victims

The Kwara State Police Command, has successfully rescued 20 passengers who were abducted by gunmen on the Osi/Obbo-Aiyegunle road on August 16, 2024.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, the incident occurred around 3:00 PM when a group of about ten armed men ambushed three commercial vehicles, forcing the passengers into the surrounding bush.

Upon receiving the distress call, the Kwara State Police, in collaboration with local vigilantes, swiftly mobilized and launched a thorough search operation in the dense forest area between Obbo-Aiyegunle and Obbo-Ile.

“Their coordinated efforts led to the successful rescue of all 20 abducted victims.Three of the victims sustained gunshot wounds during the ordeal and have been taken to the hospital for urgent medical treatment”, he said.

The police expressed relief that all the victims were safely rescued.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Victor Olaiya, assured the public that the manhunt for the perpetrators is still ongoing.

He stated that the police are committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents and travelers in Kwara State.

The Command commended the bravery and swift response of the officers and the cooperation of the local vigilantes, which contributed to the successful rescue operation.

The public he said, is urged to remain calm and vigilant, and to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station, as further updates will be provided as the investigation continues.
