The Turaki of Ilorin and Senator representing Kwara Central in the National Assembly, Saliu Mustapha, has congratulated veteran broadcaster and media administrator, Mahmud AbdulRaheem, on the occasion of his 70th birthday.

He praised his decades-long contributions to the growth of broadcasting in Kwara State and Nigeria.

In a congratulatory message released by his media aide, Nasif Sholagberu, the senator joined family members, colleagues and media practitioners across the country to celebrate the milestone birthday of the seasoned journalist.

Mustapha described AbdulRaheem, as a respected professional whose work has left a lasting imprint on Nigeria’s broadcasting landscape.

“Dr. Mahmud AbdulRaheem is a distinguished media professional whose contributions to the development of broadcasting in Kwara State and Nigeria at large have remained significant and impactful,” the senator said.

He noted that the celebrant’s career has spanned journalism, law, academia and public administration, highlighting his leadership roles including his tenure as Chief Executive Officer of the Kwara State Broadcasting Corporation and his service with the National Broadcasting Commission.

According to Mustapha, AbdulRaheem’s professionalism and dedication to ethical journalism have helped shape and strengthen the broadcasting sector over the years.

The lawmaker also commended the veteran broadcaster for promoting indigenous culture and community development through Gerin 95.5 FM, widely regarded as the first community radio station in the Ilorin Emirate.

He said the station has continued to play an important role in projecting the cultural heritage, traditions and values of the Ilorin Emirate to a wider audience.

Mustapha further acknowledged AbdulRaheem’s legacy in mentoring younger journalists and media practitioners, noting that his guidance has inspired many professionals currently making their mark in the industry.

“His wealth of experience and commitment to mentoring young professionals have continued to inspire a new generation within Nigeria’s media industry,” the senator stated.

The lawmaker also pointed out that the celebrant comes from a family with a strong tradition of public service, being a brother to former Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin and former Chairman of the Federal Character Commission, Shuaib Oba AbdulRaheem.

Mustapha prayed for continued good health, long life and strength for the veteran broadcaster, expressing hope that he will continue to contribute to national development and the advancement of Nigeria’s media industry.
