– Condemn Government’s inability to tackle insecurity

From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

The Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), has called on Governments at all levels, to uphold their constitutional responsibilities to safeguard lives, properties, and provide transparent and accountable governance.

The call was made in a communique released at the end of a three-day ECWA South-West and Patigi Zonal Conference, held at the ECWA Theological Seminary in Igbaja, Kwara State.

The communique condemned the rising insecurity across Nigeria, including banditry, kidnappings, ritual killings, and attacks by “Unknown Gun Men.” It criticized the government’s failure to effectively address these issues and protect citizens from the ongoing violence and destruction.

Signed by Reverend Frank Paul Oluwatimihin, Chairman of the South-West/Patigi Consultative Forum, and secretary, Reverend Timothy O. Ajibola, the communique also expressed empathy with Nigerians facing hardships due to the removal of fuel subsidies and the resultant inflation.

The conference, themed ‘Repositioning for God’s service (Romans 12:2), called on the Federal Government, to align actions with its plans to improve the lives of average Nigerians. While acknowledging the right to protest, the conference condemned actions leading to looting and chaos and urged ECWA members to avoid unauthorized gatherings.

The biennial conference, which involves 17 districts across Kwara, Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Edo, and Lagos States, focuses on enhancing pastoral ministry and adapting to technological advancements. It encouraged church members to participate in elections while advising pastors to avoid overt political endorsements.

The conference also urged state governments in the zones to ensure fair distribution of political appointments, considering the significant Christian population in states like Kwara and Kogi.

Participants, committed to strengthening relationships among pastors and families, utilizing technology for advancing the gospel, and incorporating social media and AI in church activities.

The event concluded with prayers for the ECWA denomination and the nation, seeking peace and prosperity for Nigeria.
