From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

The Kwara State House of Assembly, has called on Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq, to instruct the Ministry of Health to enforce stricter regulations on traditional medicine practices in the state.

This call followed a motion presented by Oba Abdulkadir Magaji, the Leader of the House and representative of Ilorin Central, during today’s plenary session.

The motion emphasized the need to enforce the Kwara State Traditional Medicine and Registration Law of 2006 to ensure practitioners adhere to its provisions.

Oba Magaji highlighted that the current law, which is intended to regulate and standardize traditional medicine practices, is often ignored, posing potential health risks to the public.

In support of the motion, other members advised Kwarans to only use traditional medicines approved by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).

The Speaker, Engineer Yakubu Danladi Salihu, called for regular training and sensitization for traditional medicine practitioners to ensure compliance with the law. He also urged for the prosecution of anyone found violating the regulations.
