From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

Mr. Olusegun Adeyemi, the State Director of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), in Kwara State, has called on Nigerian youths to avoid participating in protests that could escalate into violence, looting, and property destruction.

In a statement issued by Doctor Raphael Adeyemi, Public Relations Officer for NOA Kwara State, expressed concern about peaceful protests being taken over by criminal elements, which could result in further suffering for innocent Nigerians.

Adeyemi advocated for constructive dialogue and collective bargaining as more effective means of addressing issues, citing the successful wage negotiations by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) as examples.

He stressed that peaceful negotiations with the government are more likely to yield long-lasting and positive outcomes.

He urged community leaders and influencers to champion peaceful resolutions and educate young people on the dangers and ineffectiveness of violent protests.

Adeyemi also emphasised the media’s role in maintaining peace by avoiding the dissemination of provocative or misleading information that could incite unrest.

Furthermore, Adeyemi called on journalists and media organizations to support national unity and development through responsible, solution-focused reporting.

He appealed to parents, particularly mothers and guardians, to keep their children away from disruptive protests for the betterment of the community.
