The Kogi State House of Assembly, has directed nominees for appointment as Secretaries of the 21 Local Government Areas in the state, to appear before the House for screening and confirmation on Tuesday, November 10, 2026.

The directive followed the presentation of a letter from the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Kogi State Chapter, forwarding the names of nominees to the Assembly for legislative consideration.

The letter, signed by the ALGON State Chairman, Hon. Tosin Olokun, requested the House to screen and confirm the nominees in line with the relevant laws governing local government administration in the state.

However, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Aliyu Umar Yusuf, said the submission by ALGON could only be regarded as a notification, stressing that the law requires each of the 21 Local Government Chairmen to personally forward the name of their respective nominees to the Assembly.

He therefore directed all the Local Government Chairmen to submit individual letters endorsing their nominees to enable the House to proceed with the screening and confirmation exercise.

The Speaker also called on members of the Assembly to take note of the development and ensure compliance with the required legislative procedure.

The nominees whose names were read on the floor of the House include representatives from the various Local Government Areas across the state, while the Assembly awaits the formal submissions from the respective council chairmen.
