Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has given each member of the 2026 NYSC Batch ‘C’ Stream I in the state N50,000 support grant, while urging them to embrace peace, tolerance and hospitality during their service year.
AbdulRazaq announced the grant recently while declaring open the 21-day orientation course for 2,740 newly sworn-in corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Ilorin.
The governor said the gesture was in appreciation of the corps members’ impressive turnout at the Independence Day celebration held in the state the previous day, as well as to cushion the impact of current economic realities.
“I was also impressed by the turnout of the NYSC at the Independence Parade yesterday. It was a full turnout and the government is appreciating that by also giving each corps member N50,000 across board,” he said.
AbdulRazaq urged the corps members to see themselves as partners in the development of Kwara, advising them to be disciplined, security-conscious and committed to building bridges across ethnic and cultural divides.
“Our nation needs your energy, ideas, and idealism. As corps members, you are not merely visitors in Kwara; you are partners in our development. Our administration remains committed to youth empowerment, peace, and inclusive prosperity,” he said.
The governor also encouraged them to use the orientation programme to acquire skills and develop entrepreneurial ideas that could support their independence after the service year.
“Use these three weeks to acquire skills, develop entrepreneurial ideas, and begin building your independence. Government and development partners are ready to support Corps members with bankable ideas after service,” he added.
He further pledged state government support for social activities during the orientation, including Mr. and Mrs. NYSC, talent shows and Mr. Macho competitions.
A total of 2,740 corps members took the oath of allegiance administered by Chief Magistrate A.M. Ndakene, who represented the state Chief Judge.
Commissioner for Youth Development, Hon. Shehu Usman, urged the corps members to remain disciplined and committed to all camp activities, saying the drills and lectures were designed to build character and prepare them for leadership.
He assured them that the ministry would work with NYSC and other partners to identify corps members with viable business ideas for mentorship and support.
The NYSC State Coordinator, Musa Tukur, disclosed that the Batch ‘C’ Stream I corps members included those deployed from Lagos State, who were relocated to Kwara to undergo their orientation course.
According to him, the continued hosting of corps members from Lagos and other parts of the country was made possible by the accommodating disposition of the state government and people of Kwara.
Tukur commended AbdulRazaq for his continued support for the NYSC in the state and appealed for additional assistance, particularly operational vehicles and toilet facilities to improve the mobility and welfare of corps members.
