•Receives ad hoc committee report

The Kogi State House of Assembly, has upheld the leadership of the Nigeria Miners Association, Kogi State Chapter, led by Prince Oruma Yunusa, following the consideration of a report by an Ad Hoc Committee set up to investigate allegations of illegal tenure.
The House received the committee’s report during plenary after investigating a petition alleging that the Oruma Yunusa-led executive had remained in office beyond the period prescribed by the association’s constitution.
Presenting the report, Chairman of the House Committee on Public Petitions and member representing Ogori/Magongo Constituency, Hon. Ogunmola Bode, recalled that the House received a petition on April 8, 2026, signed by L.N. Illouno, Esq., on behalf of Alhaji Musa Usman and others.

Hon Bode alleged that Prince Oruma Yunusa, had remained in office since 2019, contrary to the association’s constitution, and called on the Assembly to constitute a caretaker committee to investigate the matter.
However, Hon Ogunmola said the committee’s investigation established that the current executive assumed office in 2019 for an initial four-year tenure and subsequently served a second term.
According to him, no election was conducted at the expiration of the first tenure because there were insufficient registered and qualified members to conduct the exercise. He added that the national body consequently appointed an interim executive committee to oversee the affairs of the association until 2025.
The committee also confirmed the existence of a rotational arrangement for the chairmanship of the association among the three senatorial districts, with Kogi Central expected to take over after the expiration of the current tenure.
On allegations that the association charges ₦113,000 per truck of coal daily, Ogunmola said the claim was not substantiated by the committee’s investigation.
To promote transparency and unity within the association, the committee recommended that the leadership communicate the confirmed date of the next election to all members.
It also recommended that the Prince Oruma Yunusa-led executive convene regular quarterly general meetings to address members’ grievances, strengthen unity and improve communication between the leadership and members.
The committee further urged the association to embark on statewide sensitisation campaigns to encourage more residents to register and participate in mining activities.
Such initiatives, the committee noted, would help expand participation in the mining sector, boost internally generated revenue and contribute to the economic development of Kogi State.
After considering the findings and recommendations, the Kogi State House of Assembly upheld the Prince Oruma Yunusa-led executive of the Nigeria Miners Association, Kogi State Chapter.
