From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

A coordinated security operation, involving the Kwara State Police Command, other security agencies and the Kwara State Polytechnic Security Unit has led to the arrest of a suspected cultist and the recovery of a locally fabricated pistol in Ilorin.

The suspect, identified as Agboola Olamilekan, was apprehended during an intelligence-led operation aimed at disrupting cult-related activities and curbing the circulation of illegal firearms in the state.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the operation is part of the Command’s sustained crackdown on violent criminal groups and efforts to prevent cultists from operating freely in Kwara.

Commenting on the development, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ojo Adekimi, said the Command would maintain the momentum of its offensive against cultism and other violent crimes across the state.

“Every successful operation represents another step towards dismantling criminal networks and enhancing public safety across the state through proactive and intelligence-led policing,” the commissioner said.

He added that detectives have commenced further investigations to identify and arrest other members of the suspected criminal network linked to the suspect.

The police assured residents that the Command remains committed to the policing vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, by strengthening intelligence-led operations, strategic collaboration with relevant stakeholders and sustained efforts to ensure that individuals threatening the peace and security of Kwara State are brought to justice.
