239 councillors endorse Tinubu, Ododo for second term

All the 239 elected councillors from across the 21 Local Government Areas of Kogi State, have formally endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Usman Ododo, for second term.

The endorsement was announced by the Chairperson of the Forum of Councilours, Hon. Comfort Obaromi, during a strategic meeting with the Governor at the Banquet Hall, Government House Lokoja.

This development signals a unified front of grassroots political leadership in support of the governor’s developmental agenda.

The motion for the endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for second term was moved by the chief whip and member representing Anyigba ward in Dekina Local Government council, Hon. Alfa Albubakar and secounded by the councillor representing Okoro-igah in Ijumu Local Government, Hon. Dorcas Adejumoke .

The councillors, representing diverse constituencies, collectively pledged their unwavering support for Governor Ododo’s policies and programmes aimed at fostering economic growth, improving infrastructure, and enhancing the welfare of citizens in Kogi State.

 

They lauded the governor’s commitment to good governance, inclusive leadership, and his proactive approach to addressing the needs of the populace at the local level.

Speaking on behalf of the councillors, the Chairperson of the Kogi State Forum of Councillors, Hon. Comfort Obaromi, cited the governor’s performance as a major reason for their endorsement.

In her words, “We have seen firsthand the dedication and vision of Governor Ododo. His focus on tangible development that impacts the lives of our people, from urban centers to the remotest villages, has earned him our respect and, today, our full endorsement. We believe in his leadership and are committed to working collaboratively with his administration to deliver on the promises made to the people of Kogi State.”

The councillors also highlighted the governor’s efforts in promoting security and tackling the challenges of unemployment and poverty, expressing optimism that his leadership will usher in an era of unprecedented progress for the state.

This broad-based endorsement from the very representatives of the people at the local government level is seen as a major boost for Governor Ododo’s administration as it continues its mandate.

Governor Ododo in his remarks, had reminded them of the priority placed on the presidential election, describing the president’s election as a litmus test, hence the need to play impactful roles as foot soldiers commitment towards ensuring it’s success.

The Governor further said he is ready to make sure the current system succeeds itself and that as Chief Security Officers of their various wards, they had the task of ensuring safety of lives and property of residents.

He equally assured them of his administration’s readiness to elevate some of those who distinguished themselves with greater responsibilities in governmence.

In a related development, Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, had during his meeting with councillors representing all the 239 wards across the 21 Local Government Areas of the state, charged them to remain committed to effective grassroots governance and people-oriented representation.

The meeting brought together the elected councillors to review the administration’s development agenda and strengthen collaboration between the State Government and Local Government Legislative arms.

Governor Ododo described councillors as the closest elected representatives to the people, urging them to sustain regular engagement with their constituents and ensure that government policies and programmes reach every community

He stressed the need for unity, accountability and collective responsibility in delivering democratic dividends at the grassroots.

The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance, improved security, infrastructure development, quality education, healthcare and youth empowerment, noting that the success of his administration depends on the active support of leaders at the ward level.

Speaking on behalf of the councillors, the Chairperson of the Kogi State Forum of Councilours, Hon. Comfort Obaromi expressed appreciation to Governor Ododo for recognising their role in governance.

They pledged their loyalty and support for his administration, promising to work closely with the State Government and Local Government chairmen to promote peace, unity and sustainable development across Kogi State.

The meeting ended with a renewed commitment by both the Governor and the councillors to strengthen grassroots governance and improve the welfare of the people in every ward in Kogi State
