The Kwara State Police Command, has condemned a deadly shooting incident believed to be cult-related, which left four persons dead and two others injured in Ilorin on Sunday night.
According to the Command, the incident occurred at about 9:00 p.m. on 14th June, 2026, when a group of about five armed hoodlums stormed a makeshift bamboo bar around the Post Office axis near the railway and opened fire on people who were gathered there before fleeing the scene.
Police operatives who responded to a distress call rushed the victims to the Police Clinic, where medical personnel confirmed four of them dead, while two survivors are currently receiving treatment.
Preliminary investigation suggests the attack is linked to cult rivalry. The Command further disclosed that two suspected members of a notorious cult group have already been arrested in connection with the incident.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said the suspects are already assisting investigators with useful information.
“The suspects are currently in custody and are providing useful information to assist ongoing investigations and to help us identify and apprehend other members of the criminal gang,” she stated.
The Command added that tactical and intelligence units have been deployed to track down other fleeing members of the group, assuring that all those involved will be brought to justice.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ojo Adekimi, psc, mnips, strongly condemned the attack, describing it as a senseless act of violence that threatens public peace and safety.
“This act of criminality is unacceptable. We are fully committed to ensuring that everyone connected to this incident is arrested and prosecuted in line with the law,” he said.
He also extended condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured victims a speedy recovery, while urging residents to remain calm and support the police with credible information.
The Command reassured the public that efforts are ongoing to prevent further breakdown of law and order in the state.
