Governor Ahamdu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa state, says poverty and illiteracy is the root causes of insecurity, calling on parents to enroll their children in schools.
Fintiri stated this as he identified recently, while speaking as the Special Guest of honour at the annual Ramadan lecture organised by Centre for Islamic Thought, CIT, Yola held at FCE Yola, and called on religious leaders to preach peace in their respective places of worship.
“As part of government efforts to curb insecurity across the state, the Adamawa State has introduced empowerment and skills acquisition programme tagged “Fintiri Wallet” under the Poverty Alleviation and Wealth Creation Agency (PAWECA).
“Youths and women are been empowered through payment of stipends, and some were train in various vocational and technical trades to enable them become self-reliant after graduation under the programme”.
Representing the Governor during the occasion, Permanent Secretary Cabinet Affairs, Alhaji Muktar Tukur, who called on the citizens to imbibe the culture of peace and harmony for development to thrive, noted that no meaningful development could take place in an atmosphere devoid of peace.

He lauded the foresight of the organizers, which according to him will reawaken Muslims on their obligations to Allah and follow footsteps of Prophet Muhammad.
In his welcome address, the Amir of the Centre, Dr. Usman Dadah, called on the citizens to continue with prayers for peace to reign in the state and the country at large.
“The CIT strongly condemned the increasing activities of kidnapping, banditry and other criminal activities in the country. These negative vices have inflicted terror and fear in our people which have hindered productivity in our farms.”
The Amir enumerated some activities undertaken by the Centre to include support for the weak and less privileged in the society and networking with other Islamic organisations among others.
Declaring the lecture open, chairman of the occasion, Mallam Muhammad Jada, emphasised the need for Muslims to adhere to teachings of the religion for them to be successful in this world and the hereafter.
The guest lecturer Dr. Abdurrahman Nasir from Katsina State, spoke extensively on the various ways that Muslims should follow that will make them be amongst thos3 admitted in paradise.
